Work on downtown Courtyard by Marriott behind schedule

A long anticipated downtown hotel project is two months behind schedule, according to building officials.
E.B. Jackson, vice president of Concord, N.C.-based Graham Construction, said Thursday the six-story, 124-room hotel Courtyard Marriott development – located at the corner of Second and Grace streets – has been delayed because of various problems at the site.
He said his firm initially scheduled the $14 million hotel’s completion for January 2013.
That’s now been delayed to March 2013.
Jackson would not comment specifically about the reasons behind the delay.
In November, dozens of workers and students from nearby downtown buildings were evacuated by the Wilmington Fire Department after a crane on the hotel’s work site buckled.
