Friends School Names DEIJB Coordinator

Jennifer Barfield has been named to fill the newly created role of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice and Belonging (DEIJB) Coordinator at Friends School of Wilmington, according to a news release.

She will work with students, faculty and staff  to provide leadership in systemic equity and instructional practice.

"The main function of the position is to foster a culture of community, diversity and inclusion and support students and staff to address issues and opportunities of equity that impact student learning – ultimately ensuring that Friends School of Wilmington is a place where everyone feels a true sense of belonging," the release stated.

Barfield has served the school as lead kindergarten teacher for four years. Before FSW, she worked for New Hanover County as a gifted specialist and coordinator for the Striving to Achieve Excellence (STAE) program and with NC Virtual Public Schools.

Barfield also was lead mentor for teachers at D.C Virgo Preparatory School and served for many years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist in lower elementary. She was named teacher of the year at Forest Hills Elementary in 2005.
