Cape Fear Community College recently announced the reappointment of Bruce Shell to the position of trustee.

Shell was appointed by the New Hanover County Board of Education to serve an additional four-year term expiring June 30, 2027, according to a news release. Shell was sworn in at the May 18, 2023, CFCC Board of Trustees meeting.

Jim Morton, CFCC president, stated in the release, “His dedication and commitment to advancing higher education in our community have been invaluable assets. With his guidance, we are confident that CFCC will continue to thrive and catalyze positive change in our community.”

Shell worked for 25 years as an official with New Hanover County, including serving as the finance director and internal auditor. He concluded his service with the county in 2012 after serving seven years as the county manager. He was appointed as the Interim Town Manager for Carolina Beach in 2013.

In 2014 he was elected to a four-year term on the New Hanover County Board of Education. Shell is a community college graduate and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

In other board news, Marc Sosne (pictured below) was sworn in as a CFCC Board of Trustees member during a recent meeting.

Sosne is a lifelong educator who began his career as an instructor in Rochester, New York, in 1972 and was quickly promoted to principal of an elementary school at the age of 26, a news release stated. He remained a school administrator for the next 40 years, spending 23 years as a superintendent.

During this time, he served as assistant superintendent and interim superintendent of New Hanover County Schools from 1990 to 1995 and as superintendent of Pender County Schools from 1996 to 2004. He also served as the superintendent in residence at the University of North Carolina Wilmington for three years, where he directed the Masters in School Administration program.

Sosne was appointed by the New Hanover County Board of Education and will serve until 2027.
