The Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors voted unanimously to appoint Tammy Proctor as the incoming interim executive director, according to a news release.

The action came after receiving the resignation of the previous director, Steven Hill, the release stated.

“I have enjoyed working with the businesses in the Greater Topsail area,” Hill said in the release. “In my service to the chamber, we made great strides in the area of economic development, and I will continue to be involved with regional economic development.”

Proctor, who will retire from her role as director of Pender County tourism, will step in as interim director of the chamber. From 2013 to 2015, Proctor served as director of the chamber, according to the release.

“I am looking forward to returning to the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce,” Proctor said in the release. “Dr. Hill moved the chamber forward and it is my goal to continue that momentum.”

Under Hill’s leadership, the chamber expanded its economic development mission, created a new membership website and built lasting relationships with the town officials in the chamber’s geographic coverage area, according to the release. The chamber’s ambassador program and WomenConnect, a women’s networking group, were instated under Hill’s leadership.

With more than 330 members, the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization that serves businesses and nonprofits from Scotts Hill to Sneads Ferry.
