Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Welcomes New Board Members

By Staff Reports, posted May 28, 2024
Lower Cape Fear LifeCare (LCFL) recently welcomed four new members to its board of directors: Katherine Daniel, Althea Johnson, Preston “Roger” Sims and Marybeth Winstead.

LCFL’s Board of Directors is charged with making policy and guiding the direction, mission, budget and programs of the local nonprofit, which was founded more than 40 years ago, according to a news release.

Daniel (pictured at right) is the founder of Montani Consulting, a Wilmington-based human resources consulting firm that serves businesses of all sizes and in a variety of industries. She has two decades of experience in the fields of leadership development, employer branding, recruitment marketing and human resources, the release stated.

Johnson (pictured below) has more than 20 years of experience as a healthcare administrator with federally qualified health centers and is currently the CEO of MedNorth Health Center in Wilmington. Originally from the area, Johnson returned more than 19 years ago and has served on the boards of the Salvation Army, Voyage and Northside Oasis of Wilmington, according to the release.

"She is looking forward to serving on the LCFL board and hopes to increase the awareness of its services and ensure MedNorth’s and other similar healthcare providers’ patients are aware of and access the care services and programs LCFL offers," the release stated.

Sims (pictured at right) was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, but was educated in the New Hanover County School system and graduated from Cape Fear Community College with a degree in business administration. He served in the local 130th infantry Unit of the Army National Guard. He is currently a Code Enforcement Officer with the city of Wilmington and has owned New Life Lawn Care for the past 20 years. Sims has also served as a deacon at Macedonia missionary Baptist Church for more than two decades.

Winstead (pictured at left) began her career in sales at Atcom Business Technology in Durham, where she finished her 14-year tenure as vice president of sales and marketing, leading offices in The Triangle, Greensboro and Charlotte.  A lifelong commitment to health and fitness led her to retire early and leverage her numerous health and fitness certifications as a partner in HealthyMoms Fitness. Winstead went onto become founder/owner of HealthyMoms of the Triangle, according to the release.

After vacationing and owning property at Wrightsville Beach since 1997, she and her family made it their permanent residence in 2020.  Wanting to get more involved in the local community, Winstead joined LCFL’s Last Chance for White Pants Gala committee, heading the gala’s auction in 2022 and serving as Co-Chair in 2023.  She and her husband, Lelon, currently serve as chairs of Lower Cape Fear Life Care’s Philanthropy Council Campaign, to oversee the success of the campaign.
