Ice cream purveyor Boombalatti’s Homemade Ice Cream earned honors from the North American Ice Cream Association, according to a news release.

"Each year, hundreds of ice cream professionals and aspiring dessert entrepreneurs from across the nation gather for the industry’s largest event in the U.S., hosted this year at The Savannah Convention Center from Nov. 12-15," the release stated. "A highlight of the event is the association’s ice cream flavor and quality competitions, which draw entries from the finest ice cream makers nationwide."

In this year’s competition, Boombalatti’s earned blue ribbons for its dark chocolate ice cream and chocolate ice cream, according to the release.

The judging process was overseen by dairy scientist Sam Alcaine of Cornell University, the release stated. Judging panels included seasoned ice cream business owners, according to the release.

Boombalatti’s opened in The Forum on Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington in 1999. Wes and Kristen Bechtel became its owners in 2015.
