Bill's To Host Mullet Contest To Christen New 'party In The Back' IPA

By Lynda Van Kuren, posted Aug 10, 2022
Have you ever worn a mullet? Are you sporting a mullet now (if you didn’t know, the mullet is making a comeback)? Do you want to join the trend and get a mullet?

If you answered yes to any of the above, the Party in the Back Mullet Pageant, sponsored by Bill’s Brewing Co., is for you.

The Mullet Pageant is being held in honor of the brewery’s latest can release of its Party in the Back New England India Pale Ale. The award-winning ale will hit local shelves this week.

The pageant also serves a good cause. All ticket proceeds from the event will be donated to the Wilmington-based nonprofit Wigs for Kids.

“People love to have fun with the ale’s mullet theme, so we decided a Mullet Pageant would be a great way to celebrate the beer’s latest drop,” said Donnie Stone, the brewery’s director of operations, in a press release.

Though the competition may be stiff, competitors have lots of chances to win. They can enter into any of, and more than one, of the multiple categories for mullet achievement, including Most Authentic Mullet, Best Female Mullet, Best Artificial Mullet, Most Creative Mullet and Best in Show.

The competition will be hosted by local mullet-donning comedian Ellie Coleman, and it will be judged by a panel of mullet-appreciating experts, including hair stylists, comedians and beer and wine aficionados.

The pageant is open to competitors of all ages, and ticket options include competitor for those 21 years of age and older or younger and general admission. All competitor tickets include entry into the pageant, a commemorative tank top and two complimentary pints of Bill’s Brewing beer for adult entrants. General admission tickets include one complimentary pint for adults and the chance to vote for Best in Show.

The Mullet Pageant will be held at Bill’s Brewing Taproom from 6-10 p.m. on Aug. 12.
