NC Film Forum This Week To Address 'Post-Pandemic Production'

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jun 9, 2021

A virtual series to address topics in the film industry will continue Wednesday with discussions on filming during a pandemic.

The UNCW Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and Cucalorus Film Foundation is hosting the June session of the 2021 NC Film Forum Wednesday with featured guests Barbara D’Alessandro, producer on "Reprisal" and "13 Reasons Why," and Noelle Pflum, production coordinator on "Lost Boys" and "Swamp Thing."

This month's session, entitled "Post-Pandemic Production" is slated to include a discussion on guidelines and next steps in the industry’s protocols on pandemic safety, according to a news release.

Those interested in attending the June virtual forum can join on Zoom at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The series takes place at that time on the second Wednesday of each month. Each session includes time for questions and comments from attendees.

The NC Film Forum is a six-month professional development series "providing resources to support the careers of creative professionals who make movies for a living," stated the release.

"With so many projects shooting here in North Carolina this year the energy is coming back in a way that feels really good. There are four major productions ramping up right now, so hearing from two of the region's top professionals should give us a view of what it's like on set and at the studio," Dan Brawley, the leader of Cucalorus, said in an email Wednesday.

With the virtual format, the group is able to share information with filmmakers from all over the state, Brawley said

"That really feels like a good outcome for the NC Film Forum as we try to strengthen connections between filmmakers and industry leaders," Brawley said.

The film forum series launched in April. The most recent forum was in May with special guests and a discussion on film grants and incentives.

The next forum "builds on the kind of info that Johnny Griffin shared last month about the shortage of studio space around the world and the increased activity in his office," Brawley said. "This time, we'll get a little more insight about what's happening on the inside of the production world and how crews are managing both the end of the pandemic but also the increase in production activity."

The 2021 NC Film Forum Series "will continue to focus on building business skills for emerging production companies in the region with a series of workshops on topics ranging from casting to film festival submissions," stated the release.
