New Hanover County could soon see the first purchase of property from its 120-acre Blue Clay Business Park.

An affiliate of stone distributor Francini Inc. is slated to purchase 6.3 acres in the park for $250,000.

County commissioners will consider the purchase offer, including a four-year option to add on another 7.1 acres, at the regular meeting on Feb. 6.

Once the offer is accepted by the board and the county posts notice of the sale, a 10-day upset period begins.

Reached Wednesday, a representative of Francini Inc. declined to comment on the proposed purchase and redirected inquiries to Wilmington Business Development (WBD) officials. WBD also declined to comment.

Infrastructure at the Blue Clay Business Park has not yet been installed, county spokesperson Alex Riley told the Business Journal last month.

County officials initially expected infrastructure to be completed by last summer. However, McKim and Creed, the county’s engineer on the project, is experiencing permitting delays, Riley said. “We anticipate being able to award a bid in March with construction completed this fall,” he said.

The county estimates it will cost $2.3 million to bring utilities online.

In August, commissioners were set to consider the county’s first purchase offer for land in the park from an affiliate of MCO Transport Inc. However, shortly after the publication of the information, the firm rescinded its plans to acquire 12 acres for $450,000.

“At this time, we have not sold any parcels in the Business Park; however, through our partners at WBD, there has been continued interest in the park,” Riley said last month.
