CFCC Announces Gift To Help Nursing Students

By Staff Reports, posted Nov 5, 2021
A $400,000 gift to the Cape Fear Community College Foundation and NHRMC Foundation will be used to help students in the college’s accelerated LPN to RN program.

Dan Saklad made the donation in memory of his wife, Sheila.

The funds will support two initiatives, officials said.

The Sheila M. Saklad Accelerated Nursing Fellowship will help seasoned licensed practical nurses gain the education needed to attain registered nursing licensure in two semesters, covering students’ items such as tuition, books, supplies, living stipend and more.

And “through the Upward Mobility RN Scholarship, NHRMC Novant employees obtaining their education at CFCC will receive up to two years of full tuition coverage for their licensing program; a flexible reduced schedule at the same rate of pay and benefits in order to dedicate time to their studies; and monthly meetings with a nurse mentor and career coach,” the release stated.
