INFO JUNKIE: Will Baird

Will Baird

CEO/Co-founder

Boreas Monitoring Solutions

Baird’s company is a fertility lab monitoring startup. The Wilmington-based company is a biotech research firm that patented a weight-based system for monitoring liquid nitrogen tanks, commonly used with in vitro fertilization.

Favorite apps: Slack – communication with teams; HubSpot – communication with customers; and the WECT weather app – essential.

Baird’s top podcasts include Wisdom From The Top and How I Built This, both hosted by Guy Raz. For the first, Raz interviews top executives at major corporations about business hurdles they’ve faced and how they were overcome. In the latter, founders tell their story from ideation to exit or growth. “Both are well done and organized, Guy Raz is an excellent interviewer, and there are always little morsels of information that are invaluable to startup founders.”

A book that left the biggest impression on him lately was Crossing the Chasm by Geoffrey Moore. The book explains how to stay focused on the initial target market and understanding the stages of acceptance by the customer base.

Movie and TV picks: “I have two little ones, so watching TV, let alone a full movie, is a rare occurrence. I would say my favorite movie I have watched that I can remember is The Peanut Butter Falcon, a great coming of age story set in the Low Country – humorous and pulls on the heartstrings.”
