Since joining New Hanover Regional Medical Center as President and Chief Executive Officer in February 2004, Jack has led a transformation of the publicly owned hospital system. During his decade of leadership, the 769-bed regional referral center has become a national leader in patient satisfaction and exceeding quality care standards.

Chief accomplishments during his tenure include building a women’s and children’s hospital and surgical pavilion; refurbishing the main patient tower; implementing an electronic medical record; maintaining financial stability; reducing turnover by more than half; and building a physician network of more than 150 providers.

Jack’s most significant achievement has been building a culture of service excellence better focused on serving patients, their families, physicians and employees. To realize this change, he partnered with the Studer Group, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2013. In recent years, Jack has introduced NHRMC to Lean management principles, a continuous process improvement that has already saved the organization millions.

Jack has served more than 30 years in health care management. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and a master’s degree from George Washington University in 1979 in health administration.

Jack and his wife, Mary, have two children and two grandchildren. He remains fiercely loyal to his hometown Pittsburgh Steelers and his alma mater, Notre Dame’s Fighting Irish.
