John Devaney has more than 22 years of progressive experience leading non-profits, with almost 20 years directly in health care. Devaney joined Cape Fear Clinic (then known as Tileston Health Clinic) in April 2010 as executive director; in 2015, his title was changed to chief executive officer. Immediately before relocating to Wilmington, N.C., he was vice-president of The Lohman Group, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm focused on helping non-profit and for-profit health care organizations improve efficiency and develop strong patient-centered programming.

As a director of the Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia, Devaney oversaw the operations of the largest HIV/AIDS clinic in Virginia. He has also held the position of director of operations at the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, one of the oldest pro-bono legal providers in the U.S.

Devaney was named a finalist for the 2014 Health Care Heroes in the health care executive category. He holds a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia.
