A church creating affordable housing on Blue Clay Road is seeking a rezoning to add more homes to an existing plan.
Cindee Wolf of Design Solutions has submitted the rezoning request to New Hanover County on behalf of property owner New Beginning Christian Church.
The rezoning would change about 11 acres in the 3100 block of Blue Clay Road from a conditional residential district to a conditional multifamily district, according to a letter to neighboring property owners.
The previously approved plan held up to 68 homes while the new plan would hold up to 180 units.
“The New Beginning Christian Church continues to work towards the final stage of their community development efforts. This section of the residential community would be oriented towards families,” the letter dated Aug. 11 stated. “The Senior neighborhood phase, along Holland Drive, has recently started construction. They appreciate your interest and look forward to continuing to be a good neighbor and an asset to the community.”
Efforts to reach a representative of the church were not immediately successful Wednesday.
According to the letter, a community meeting to explain the change is scheduled to be held at 6 tonight, Aug. 23, at New Beginning Christian Church, 3120 Alex Trask Drive in Castle Hayne. Those unable to make the meeting can contact Wolf, the letter stated, at (910) 620-2374 or [email protected] with comments and/or questions.
