A community meeting will be held later this month on a newly proposed 55-plus community in Porters Neck.

A 38-lot, single-family residential community would be built on 12 acres of vacant land at 226 Edgewater Club Road. Developers are asking New Hanover County leaders to rezone the site as a conditional zoning district.

According to a notice issued on Friday, the site’s owner Har-Ste Investments LLC, plans to submit an upcoming rezoning request. The limited liability company is registered to Gerald Dean Hardison. According to property records, Har-Ste Investments purchased the site in December for $1.4 million.

In addition to the 38 single-family homes, the project would include sidewalks, an amenity center and required stormwater management facilities.

A community meeting is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. to discuss the proposed project and its impacts. The meeting will be held at the Holiday Inn Express – Porters Neck, 168 Porters Neck Road. Those who cannot attend the meeting can contact Cindee Wolf at (910) 620-2374 or [email protected] with comments or questions.

Community meetings are held before rezoning requests are formally submitted to New Hanover County officials. Once submitted, the request will go before the county's planning board and board of commissioners for review.
