Roundup: City Fields Several Restaurant Proposals

Wilmington city planning officials are fielding requests for several new restaurant buildings.
 
A nearly 3,200-square-foot Cook Out has been proposed for 4195 Market St. Plans call for demolishing the former Wells Fargo bank branch located there to build the fast-food restaurant. Based in Thomasville, the North Carolina chain’s menu revolves around a variety of low-cost burgers and milkshakes.
 
The city’s technical review committee is slated to discuss the project during the group’s Dec. 22 meeting. If ultimately approved, the Market Street location would join three other Cook Outs in Wilmington – two on South College Road and one on Carolina Beach Road near Monkey Junction.
 
The technical review committee at its Dec. 16 meeting also is planning to take up a proposal to build a second CAVA restaurant in Wilmington.
 
The D.C.-based chain recently opened its first location in Wilmington, taking over the former Zoes Kitchen space at 1011 International Drive in Mayfaire Town Center. CAVA is a Mediterranean restaurant featuring a food assembly line that allows diners to customize orders from among an assortment of bases, spreads, proteins and toppings.
 
The next proposed location would be at Independence Mall. Plans submitted to the city call for building a new outparcel building.
 
CAVA representatives said this week that the location is slated to open in 2022 but did not have additional info to share.
 
And finally on Dec. 16, technical review committee members will discuss plans for Seaboard Social Hall, a proposed restaurant and music hall at 1315 S. 5th Ave. Monarch Property Co., the creators of Raleigh’s Transfer Co. Food Hall, are looking to establish it at the historic National Linen Service Building.
 
Monarch representatives have said it will be made of multiple venues in a 43,000-square-foot gathering place designed to bring together the area’s top chef-driven restaurant concepts, as well as up-and-coming food entrepreneurs and retailers.
