A new coffee trailer has rolled into town, and this one aims to perk up any slow-pokes. The Frothy Sloth Coffee Hut opened earlier this month, serving up specialty brews out of a trailer.

“It’s only been two weeks but we’re loving every minute of it,” co-owner James Yourell said.

About a week out from medical retirement from the Marines, Yourell said he was looking for something to do as he entered the next phase of his life. His wife and co-owner Sarah had previously worked as a barista, and they wanted to try something their 10-year-old son Derek could help out with too.

Yourell said sloths are his “spirit animal” – he even has a tattoo of the slow-moving creature on his forearm. “The whole motto of the sloth is ‘live slow, die whenever,’” Yourell said. “Take everything day-by-day and enjoy it.

The coffee is sourced from Java Estate Roastery out of Hampstead and Boone-based Hatchet Coffee Company. The mobile shop’s menu features standard drip coffee, espresso shots and drinks, nitro, cold brew and signature lattes. The “hang loose” is Yourell’s favorite, which is a honey vanilla and cinnamon latte. His wife's is a blueberry and caramel combo and their son's is made with caramel hazelnut and vanilla. De-caffeinated coffee and teas are available as well.

So far, the Frothy Sloth has plans to stop in Wilmington on Tuesdays, and this week set up outside the New Hanover County Health and Human Services building. Schedules will be shared on its Facebook page every weekend, Yourell said, and the business is looking to book more organizations in Wilmington for extended or recurring stops.

The remainder of the week, the Frothy Sloth slugs around the Jacksonville and Richlands area, he said.
