Few things are better than truly authentic cuisine, and this year’s Temple of Israel’s “Big Nosh” will certainly not disappoint. “Nosh” is a Yiddish word for snack and typically refers to food that is particularly tasty.

This pick-up-only event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 30, at Temple of Israel’s Reibman Center, located at 922 Market St. from noon to 6 p.m. All items must be preordered by Thursday, Nov. 15, either online at templefundraising.online or through a mail-in form.

Co-chair Richard Lerner has been a part of the Big Nosh since its beginning.

“We decided that we needed a fundraiser for the Temple, and we have been doing this now for about four years,” Lerner said. “This is a chance for the Wilmington area to enjoy some Jewish food that they can’t necessarily get in this area. It is also a way to inform our community about Jewish food and, in turn, highlight our Temple.”

This year, Lerner and his team have tried to make it easier for those ordering food to do so using a QR code, which can be found on the website. The website has also undergone improvements for ease of use.

These improvements have been made because “this is a major fundraiser for the Temple of Israel to help support the many programs we have for our congregants,” Lerner said.

The menu offers many authentic dishes with a little something for every member of the family.

“We will have a variety of food to fit everyone’s palette,” says Lerner. “Corned beef and pastrami from New York, Hebrew National salami, rye bread, Israeli pickles, herring and white fish salads, homemade mushroom barley soup, homemade knishes, and greens Rugelah and Babkas – both available in chocolate or cinnamon.”

Many of the items available freeze well, so it is a great opportunity to stock up for the holidays. Discounts are also available to those who purchase a bundle, which includes several of the most popular menu items.

As Rabbi Gil Marks would say, “To know a community is to know its food.” The event offers an opportunity to get to know and support the local Jewish community through their delicious food. For more information, visit templefundraising.online or call (540) 597-9268.
