A Raleigh fashion retailer that had a store at Mayfaire Town Center has closed all of its stores in North and South Carolina.

The women's clothing boutique called bevello, 6837 Main St., closed Aug. 9, according to a sign on the door Friday. A post on bevello's Facebook page from Aug. 8 said every bevello store left open would be closing that day.

"Since opening our first store in 2009, we’ve been blessed to work with our wonderful clients to fulfill our mission of empowering women to look and feel beautiful," the post stated. "Unfortunately, we had to close many stores last year to right-size our company, and at this time, we have decided to close all stores on Friday, August 9th 2019."

The website for bevello shows that the company had at least 11 stores previously, nine in North Carolina and two in South Carolina.

In February this year, the chain's founder, Chan Namgong, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a Triangle Business Journal story. The filing claimed most of his more than $4.7 million in debts were related to his business, the story stated.

In a court filing Aug. 9, Namgong sought a motion to convert the Chapter 11 bankruptcy to Chapter 7, a liquidation bankruptcy, citing his inability to pay certain tax claims or come up with a plan of reorganizaton.

According to court documents, a hearing on the motion is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sept. 5 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Raleigh. A call Friday afternoon to one of Namgong's attorneys was not immediately returned.

Of the Mayfaire Town Center space bevello left behind, "We’re working with a prospective tenant, but I can’t make any announcements until leases are executed," said Paige Coniglio, Mayfaire's specialty leasing manager and marketing director, in an email.
