Discount tool store Harbor Freight Tools has announced plans to open a second location in Wilmington.

The California-based company will open the new location this spring in the Ogden area at 7316 Market St., according to a news release.

Construction on the new store has already started but an official opening date is not yet known.

With more than 1,300 stores nationwide, Harbor Freight currently has a location at 2636 Carolina Beach Road.

“We’ve been looking to open a location in Wilmington for a number of years so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Trey Feiler, senior vice president of real estate and construction, in the release. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Wilmington area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”

The company expects to hire 25 to 30 employees to staff the new store.

According to a building permit filed in December, the new Harbor Freight store will be located inside the former Big Lots, which is being subdivided into two separate spaces. Dollar Tree will be the other tenant, according to the permit.
