Gas station and convenience store chain Sheetz plans to open its 6401 Carolina Beach Road location May 1, according to an announcement Wednesday.

Sheetz opened its first two Wilmington-area locations in July.

According to the Sheetz announcement, grand opening festivities will begin outside the 6401 Carolina Beach Road store at 9 a.m. with multiple prizes awarded, including a grand prize giveaway of free Sheetz for a Year. The store’s official ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for 10:45 a.m., a news release stated. Sheetz' third area location sits across from the entrance to Veterans Park and Ashley High School.

Sheetz is one of several gas station chains to target the Wilmington area, either with new locations opening or plans in the pipeline, in recent years. In one example, another Sheetz is planned about three miles south of the Sheetz at 6401 Carolina Beach Road.

Based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Sheetz operates more than 770 stores across Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland, with all locations open 24/7, 365 days a year, the release stated.
