Why did you decide to open Chill Pretty?

Lee and Montore: “We created Chill Pretty with a simple vision: to give women a one-stop space where they can pick out a cute outfit, get their hair done and leave feeling confident and refreshed. A place where you can truly chill – and feel pretty.”

Why did you choose Surf City for your location?

Lee and Montore: “Surf City is booming, and we landed in the perfect spot at the perfect time. We honestly feel so blessed and confident about where our business is headed – and a huge part of that is thanks to this incredible location.”

You have been able to double your space while you’ve been there? How did that expansion come about?

Lee and Montore: “We started with just one unit back in November 2024. When the business next door decided not to renew their lease, they offered it to us. And we knew with all the growth happening in the area, we had to jump on the opportunity or risk missing out for good. A few months later, here we are – with one side dedicated to the Hair Lounge and the other to the Boutique.”

What sets you apart from other similar businesses in the area?

Lee and Montore: “What sets us apart from other businesses in the area is our unique concept – we’re a true one-stop shop for women. We’ve combined a stylish apparel boutique with a full-service hair lounge, offering everything from blowouts and parties to waxing and permanent makeup. We also host yoga classes twice a month, creating space for wellness and self-care. Whether you’re here for a girls’ night out, a little one’s birthday, or a quiet moment for yourself, we’ve built a place where you can feel relaxed and comfortable.”

How do you go about choosing items for the boutique part of your business?

Lee and Montore: “Over the past couple of years, we’ve really gotten to know our customers, and we’ve found our sweet spot. If you’re looking for a fancy dress for a special occasion, we might not be your go-to. But if you’re after everyday styles that make you feel confident, comfortable and effortlessly put-together, that’s where we shine.”

What inspired you to become business owners?

Lee and Montore: “We’re both moms to young kids, and it’s so important to us that they grow up seeing firsthand what hard work and dedication look like. Most days, you’ll find them right here with us at the store because we built this business not just to provide for our families but to set an example. Being able to support women, give back to our community and be involved in local events and charities means the world to us.”

The Small Business Spotlight focuses on area businesses that have opened in the past three years in New Hanover, Brunswick or Pender counties.
