Cape Fear Community College has selected two new deans to lead academic divisions of the college, according to a news release.

Brandon Guthrie has been named dean of arts and humanities, and Lynn Criswell is dean of English and social sciences, officials said in the release.

Guthrie has been an art instructor for 10 years. He has served as the college's department chair of fine arts and humanities for more than four years.

Guthrie holds degrees in anthropology and studio art from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and has a master's degree from Western Carolina University.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to make this division more effective and efficient for students,” Guthrie said in the release.

Criswell (right) has served CFCC in many roles, including faculty association officer, and brings 18 years of teaching and leadership experience to her new position, officials said.

“The college is moving in a great direction to optimize the transfer process for the student body as a whole,” Criswell said in the release. “I look forward to helping students realize the opportunities available to them through a transfer degree from Cape Fear.”

Criswell holds a bachelor's degree in professional and technical writing/secondary education and a master's degree in English and critical literacy from UNCW.

“We are looking forward to the future of the arts and humanities and English and social sciences divisions under the leadership of Mr. Guthrie and Mrs. Criswell,” CFCC President Jim Morton said in the release. “I am confident that their leadership will promote and grow our college transfer and dual-enrollment programs.”
