The UNCW Swain Center is moving to a new location on South College Road.

The center is in the process of moving into a more than 1,200-square-foot space at 803 S. College Road, Suite D, in the same building as UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), officials said.

The new office will open to the public Aug. 9.

The Swain Center for Executive Education and Economic Development will still be part of the university’s Cameron School of Business. “As far as Swain’s mission, it remains the same; only the location has changed,” university officials said.

The Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at UNCW is also located in the same plaza center.

“The University and the Cameron School of Business thought there would be strong synergy for the external facing entities that provide services to the business community (CIE, SBTDC, Swain Center) if they are located together in the front of campus. The Swain Center had previously been housed in an academic building that was difficult for off-campus visitors to access,” said Robert Burrus, dean of the Cameron School of Business, in an email.

The move is among other changes to the Swain Center this year.

In May, former Swain leader Richard Walsh resigned from the director position, after serving since April 2019.

Nivine Richie, associate dean for graduate and international programs and professor of finance, is serving as interim director.

UNCW officials said last week they are still early in the search for a new director.
