Hospital Safety Grades Out For Local Novant Hospitals

By Staff Reports, posted Nov 21, 2022
Novant Health facilities in the area received “A” and "B" hospital safety grades from national independent organization The Leapfrog Group for its fall 2022 hospital safety grade scoring period, according to a news release.

This scoring period marks Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center achieving 14 consecutive As over the past seven years. Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington received a B.

The Leapfrog Group assigns grades to hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients, the release stated. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring. Letter grades ranging from A to F are assigned to U.S. hospitals based on their ability to prevent errors, injuries, accidents and infections and improve patient satisfaction.

“Novant Health celebrates our dedicated physicians, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, pharmacists and clinical team members who help us achieve these high national scores, and ultimately to keep our patients safe,” said Eric Eskioglu, executive vice president and chief medical and scientific officer for Novant Health, in the release.

According to the release, "Novant Health continues to focus on hospital-acquired infection reduction by standardizing procedures based on best practices; re-educating clinical team members, which is an important component of patient safety and remarkable care; and implementing new strategies and technologies such as artificial intelligence to improve quality and safety."
