Boney Named Chair Of Art Museum's Board

Cameron Art Museum recently announced that Charles Boney has been named chair of the CAM Board of Trustees, effective July 1. 

CAM also welcomed Caroline Cameron, Janice Deskus, Kimberly Harrelson, Patricia “Patti” Jenkins, Amanda Miars, Charles “Chuck” Rogalski and Daniel Wilkinson to the board for three-year terms.

According to a news release, Boney "brings decades of architectural leadership, civic engagement and deep knowledge of the region to his role as board chair. His leadership comes at an important moment for CAM as the museum continues to grow its audience, expand access to the arts and strengthen its role as Eastern North Carolina’s premier art museum."

Heather Wilson, CEO of Cameron Art Museum, stated in the release, “Charles brings extraordinary vision, experience, and dedication to this role, along with a deep understanding of how art, architecture, education, and community shape a vibrant region.

The release also stated that the new trustees "bring extensive professional experience, strong community relationships and a shared commitment to CAM’s mission."

Of the new trustees, Wilson said, "Their collective guidance will help us expand access to the arts, support artists, care for our collection and plan boldly for the museum’s future.”

  • Boney began his career with the architectural firm LS3P in 1978. His work includes educational, civic and historic renovation projects throughout the region. Boney served as principal architect for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Governors’ Village, an award-winning educational campus designed for more than 4,800 students. His portfolio includes comprehensive school renovations, the award-winning restoration of historic Thalian Hall, and projects for community colleges and the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
  • Cameron is a community leader with experience in philanthropy, fundraising and nonprofit service. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Auburn University and began her career in the financial sector with Live Oak Bank. She currently serves as vice president of development for Cape Fear Academy’s Family Partnership and Steering Committee. 
  • Deskus is chief human resources and communication officer for Hologic Corp. and a global human resources leader with more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare, aerospace, medical device, and business-to-business sectors. Her expertise includes strategic planning, organizational transformation, cybersecurity, crisis management, acquisitions, divestitures, and executive succession. Deskus previously served as Chief Human Resources Officer of Staples, Inc. and held leadership roles with Covidien and Medtronic. Her board experience includes American Eagle Financial Credit Union and Girl Scouts of Connecticut. She currently serves on the CAM Development Committee. Deskus holds a master’s degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from the University of New Haven and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University.
  • Harrelson is a lifelong Wilmington resident with more than 30 years of experience in volunteer leadership, fundraising and community building. A graduate of Meredith College, she began her career in banking and currently serves as owner and manager of Irrigation, Inc. and manages personal commercial real estate holdings. Her community involvement has included service with the founding board of Good Friends of Wilmington, UNCW Foundation Board, Harrelson Center Board, and the Harrelson Center Capital Campaign Committee. She has also supported fundraising efforts for Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, and Cape Fear Garden Club. Harrelson has served on CAM Gala and Development committees and has a longstanding connection to the museum and its growth.
  • Jenkins is a retired attorney whose practice focused on estate planning and administration, counsel to nonprofit agencies and private foundations, and pro bono representation of visual artists. Raised in the Philadelphia area, Jenkins earned her bachelor's and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She practiced corporate transactional and intellectual property law in New York City before joining Hogue Hill LLP after moving to Wilmington in 1993. Jenkins is a trustee of the Champion McDowell Davis Charitable Foundation and a member of The Ministering Circle. She previously served on CAM Board of Trustees from 2011 through 2014.
  • Miars is a wealth and estate advisor with Live Oak Private Wealth, bringing more than 15 years of experience advising individuals, families, business owners and nonprofit organizations. Her work focuses on wealth transfer, tax efficiency, asset protection, estate planning, philanthropy and legacy planning. A former corporate, trust and estate attorney, Miars has served on the boards of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, Junior League of Wilmington, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and UNCW Board of Visitors. She currently serves on the boards of Beacon Education Inc. and UNCW Foundation and as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church. Miars earned degrees in business administration and French from UNCW and received her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Campbell University School of Law.
  • Rogalski is a retired corporate human resources executive with experience in organizational development, talent management, business ethics, community relations and international leadership. During the final 15 years of his career, Rogalski was based in Europe and held international human resources responsibilities. He has served on the boards of Cape Fear Literacy Council and MOVE|NYC| and currently volunteers as an English as a Second Language teacher and tutor, a mentor with the Cameron Executive Network at UNCW, and a volunteer at CAM. Rogalski earned a bachelor's degree from Clemson University and a master's degree in industrial management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. 
  • Wilkinson is a vice president and senior relationship strategist with PNC Private Bank. He coordinates teams that help individuals and families identify their financial priorities and develop strategies to achieve their long-term goals. Since joining PNC in 2012, Wilkinson has held roles in mortgage lending, private banking and client advising. He earned a bachelor's degree in marketing with honors from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and holds the Certified Financial Planner and Certified Investment Management Analyst designations. His community service has included the junior boards of the Alzheimer’s Association of Washington, D.C., and Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia. He also volunteers with PNC Grow Up Great and Junior Achievement, supporting early childhood education and financial literacy.
