CFCC Garners Accolade From Manufacturing Industry Institute

By Staff Reports, posted Jul 28, 2026
Cape Fear Community College has been recognized by the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) "for its outstanding engagement with manufacturing employers," according to a news release.

The recognition highlights CFCC's partnerships with GE Aerospace and GE Vernova, which have expanded workforce development opportunities throughout the region, the release stated.

"Together, the organizations support the ACE (America's Cutting Edge) CNC Machining Bootcamp and other advanced manufacturing training programs that prepare individuals for high-demand careers," according to the release.

Funded in part by IACMI, the ACE CNC Machining Bootcamp provides entry-level CNC machining training "while helping employers build a skilled workforce. CFCC and GE Aerospace also collaborate to promote the bootcamp and the college's annual Manufacturing Expo, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthening the local manufacturing pipeline," the release stated.

CFCC president Jim Morton stated in the release, "This recognition reflects the strength of our industry partnerships and our shared commitment to preparing people for rewarding careers in advanced manufacturing.

"Working closely with employers like GE Aerospace and GE Vernova ensures our training meets workforce needs while creating opportunities for students and job seekers across our region."

CFCC workforce training coordinator Cassidy Irvin (pictured at right with Elliot Keas, IACMI’s Ace Program director) accepted the award on behalf of the college during the IACMI conference June 23.
