As the CEO of Wilmington- based EMS LINQ, which provides administrative software to K-12 schools across the U.S., Hooks uses video conferencing technology to facilitate communications.
 
“The use of video conferencing has saved me hours,” Hooks said. “Companies like Zoom and GoToMeeting allow group collaboration from anywhere in seconds.”
 
Newspapers and magazines he regularly reads for work include the Wall Street Journal, Business Week, EdTech Magazine, Greater Wilmington Business Journal and Port City Daily.
 
Some websites Hooks regularly checks for work include EdWeek Market Brief, a site that provides reporting, analysis and data on the K-12 marketplace, as well as LinkedIn and Cision PR Newswire.
 
Hooks relies on Netflix when its time to wind down.
 
One favorite TV show includes Monster Energy AMA Supercross. “As a former racer, I love keeping up with the sport,” he said.
 
Other TV shows he enjoys watching include Blacklist and football and college basketball.
 
Hooks’ recommended books are “The Hard Thing About Hard Things” by Ben Horowitz and a favorite author is Malcolm Gladwell, including his books “Outliers” and “What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures.”
 
A favorite app is Amazon. “The amazon app made buying too easy,” he said. “That’s how you build ‘the customer experience.’”
