Every home has one.
The drawer in the kitchen filled with the most random items. Old batteries, loose change, a screwdriver, some receipts and tape that may or may not be sticky anymore. It wasn’t designed to be like that, but over time it just happened.
Financially our lives often look the same. Most people didn’t intentionally create a scattered financial picture. It just simply accumulated over the years as life moved forward…sometimes faster than we would like.
Your 401(k) from a previous job that hasn’t been reviewed in year. An insurance policy purchased years ago when you were making less, had young children, and a fresh mortgage. A brokerage account you opened, maybe you bought a few stocks, and then forgot about it.
Often in the mix is that set of “temporary” estate documents you completed 15 years ago when you were headed out of town and wanted to make sure something was in place, should something happen.
None of these items alone were necessarily bad at the time. But you, your life, and your plan morphed over time into something that resembles the junk drawer. Everything has a purpose, just maybe not in the right place.
Financial clarity rarely comes from adding more accounts, more strategies, or more moving parts. It comes from stepping back and asking simpler questions. Does everything still work the way it should?
The best financial plans don’t necessarily add complexity, they simply organize what already exists. Because sometimes the biggest improvement you can make to your financial life isn’t creating something new, it’s finally cleaning out the drawer.
When was the last time you opened that drawer? The Cypress Group here in Wilmington can help you open the drawer, assess what’s in there, and see how it all fits together.
Plan Well. Invest Wisely. Live Fully.
