Quality Chemical To Expand Facilities, Again

By Christina Haley O'Neal, posted Jun 14, 2021
Wilmington-based Quality Chemical Laboratories is expanding again with an 8,000-square-foot facility to support more laboratory and office space, company officials said Monday.

The company aims to construct the new two-story building on nearly 0.6 acre of undeveloped land at 3408 Enterprise Drive, said Rodney Robbins, director of business development at Quality Chemical Laboratories, which works with the pharmaceutical industry.

"This new laboratory, including microbiology/raw material testing, is being added to support the large 90,000 sq. ft. manufacturing expansion at the headquarter facility," Robbins said in an email.

This new building will be Quality Chemcial's eighth stand-alone building in the Northchase Industrial Park, and is located on a separate property about a third of a mile away from the main campus at 3220 Corporate Drive, Robbins said.

The larger 90,0000 square-foot expansion is in the works, an addition to Quality Chemical's main headquarters building at 3220 Corporate Drive. The project is nearly doubling the company's footprint in the industrial park.

There have been some delays on the larger project, Robbins said. However, the company plans to move into the space next year.

"One of the things we are adding is sterile manufacturing, and so that will be the last piece of that building. In May 2022, at some point, it will be ready for us to move in," he said. "That's when the big expansion will be complete in terms of construction.

"And then the big challenge in our industry is fitting it with equipment, getting equipment qualified and some of that would be later in 2022."

The 8,000-square-foot space is anticipated to be complete in 10 to 12 months, Robbins said, adding that a local builder and subcontractors have been selected.

The construction is up for review Wednesday during the New Hanover County Technical Review Committee (TRC) meeting at 2 p.m. at 230 Government Center Drive, Suite 110, according to county documents.
