A high-tech manufacturer that relocated to Leland from California’s Silicon Valley last year has grabbed the attention of a statewide manufacturing organization.
Precision Swiss Products won the Developing Markets award from the N.C. Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NCMEP) at the organization’s 2023 North Carolina Manufacturing Conference Sunday. It was one of five leadership awards presented to manufacturers around the state.
“The NCMEP award program recognizes manufacturers’ commitment to the North Carolina manufacturing sector, proven by outstanding performance in manufacturing excellence, sustainable manufacturing, innovation, workforce development and economic development/developing markets,” a news release from NCMEP stated.
Precision Swiss Products (PSP) creates high-precision, complex parts from metal and plastic materials. Those parts, which can have tolerances smaller than a strand of hair, are used by the medical device, aerospace and semiconductor industries, according to the release.
Despite COVID’s impact on the aerospace industry in 2021, PSP grew by 38% that year and began searching for a state in which to expand,
ultimately choosing to locate its 50,000-square-foot facility in the first speculative building in Leland’s new International Logistics Park.
The new facility has enabled PSP to meet $18 million of additional customer sales demand, company officials said in the release. Although in 2022 the company’s focus was on its cross-country move, it increased sales by 9%. The company has already added 40 new high-skilled jobs. If it generates a total of 125 within five years, PSP will qualify for two incentives: $1.8 million from the state and $270,000 from Brunswick County. Company projections are for another $45 million in sales in the next several years.
“PSP looks forward to and is committed to continuing to work with the great state of North Carolina, Brunswick and Columbus counties and their respective community colleges to develop a sustainable pipeline of talent to fill the growing highly skilled workforce in our community,” chief financial officer and general manager Stephen Dillon said in the release.
“PSP and local officials are engaging students as early as junior high school to start to educate and encourage them to look at these lucrative highly skilled jobs as great career choices," he continued. "We are currently working closely with Brunswick Community College to develop a comprehensive apprenticeship program. We are proud to be a partner in helping to further develop the economic future of our community.”
