Only a few days after its soft opening last week, Blueberry’s Grill has already found a following.

By Saturday, the new breakfast and lunch restaurant at Lumina Station was jammed, with customers waiting for tables inside and on a newly created covered patio outside. Originally announced as opening in May, the eatery experienced delays in the renovation and staffing processes, but would-be patrons clearly were watching social media for the news of its opening.

Blueberry’s has remodeled – and made less cavernous – the space occupied until four years ago by Halligan’s Public House. In creating its Wilmington location, the restaurant has drawn on its experience and success at two locations in South Carolina.

The restaurant began as a small breakfast establishment in Little River, South Carolina, but the owners subsequently moved their concept down the road, launching locations in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach under the new Blueberry’s Grill name. When they were ready to expand north to Wilmington, the owners found the Lumina Station space.

The website describes Blueberry’s Grill as a “Mediterranean-themed American casual dining restaurant chain, serving American cuisine, based in North Carolina and South Carolina," adding, "We are known for our modern interpretation of classic dishes and [our] consistency in only using high-quality fresh ingredients.”

The menu features a wide range of breakfast, brunch and lunch items. Lunch selections include soups, salads, burgers, wraps and sandwiches. A few entrées are available as well. The menu features several vegetarian and “gluten-friendly” options.

Coming soon will be a selection of cocktails. And yes, some dishes do boast fresh blueberries.

The restaurant, at 1900 Eastwood Road in Lumina Station, is open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
