Wilmington’s first Noodles & Company is set to open its doors on Wednesday.

The fast-casual pasta chain will open in University Commons, a TJ Maxx- and Lowes Foods-anchored shopping center at 351 S. College Road. The restaurant will occupy Suite 25 – a more than 2,100-square-foot storefront between Mission BBQ and The Honey Baked Ham Company.

Permit records show the space underwent several renovations in recent months to upfit the storefront for the new restaurant. The company applied for the first renovation permits in November.

The menu of the Colorado-based restaurant chain features an array of options, ranging from Wisconsin mac and cheese and cheese-stuffed tortelloni to pad thai, Japanese pan noodles and penne rosa.

Noodles & Company has 477 restaurants across 26 states, employing more than 8,000 people nationwide. Wilmington will become the company's 13th North Carolina restaurant. The locations nearest to Wilmington are Jacksonville and Myrtle Beach.

In 2015, developers submitted plans for a Noodles and Company restaurant near Independence Mall, according to past Business Journal reporting. The plans proposed an approximately 2,500-square-foot building at 3512 Oleander Drive – the current site of Moe’s Southwest Grill. Plans for the restaurant did not come to fruition.

Wilmington's Noodles & Company will be open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The location will offer pick-up, delivery and dine-in service.
