Kevin Barrett, co-founder of Dram & Draught, which has a location in downtown Wilmington, has achieved a rare merit in the world of wine and spirits education, holding both a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and the title of executive bourbon steward.
The WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) Level 3 honor "is a rigorous and globally respected advanced certification designed for industry professionals and serious enthusiasts. The program covers the natural and human factors involved in grape growing and winemaking, as well as how those elements influence the style, quality and pricing of major wines from around the world, according to a news release.
Barrett earned the qualification with merit, a high level of achievement, the release stated.
In addition to his WSET certification, Barrett is also an executive bourbon steward — a prestigious designation recognizing extensive knowledge and expertise in bourbon history, production, tasting and stewardship, according to the release.
"To the best of our knowledge, Kevin Barrett is currently the only individual in the state of North Carolina to hold both the WSET Level 3 certification and the Executive Bourbon Steward title," the release stated.
Through Dram & Draught, Barrett continues to champion whiskey, wine and cocktail culture through curated experiences, tastings and hospitality-driven programming across the community, according to the release.
