Novant Health NHRMC Named To Newsweek 'greatest Workplaces' Lists

By Staff Reports, posted About 6 hours ago
Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center recently announced it has been recognized by Newsweek with two America’s Greatest Workplaces honors for 2026.

The organization has been named to Newsweek’s lists of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Culture, Belonging & Community 2026 and America’s Greatest Workplaces in Health Care, according to a news release.

“I am incredibly proud of our team members for creating a culture grounded in supporting one another and the coastal communities we serve,” said Laurie Whalin, president of the Novant Health Coastal Region, in the release. “Their commitment to delivering exceptional care is what makes our hospital strong. This recognition reinforces our continued focus on being a leading career destination for physicians and team members who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.”

The release mentioned examples of what officials called team member support, including:
  • A Lean culture initiative aimed at empowering New Hanover team members and physicians across clinical units and departments "to play a leading role in decision-making, ensuring those closest to the work help drive meaningful improvements," the release stated;
  • A nationally recognized nurse residency program that helps build a pipeline of nurses trained and retained in southeastern North Carolina, according to the release. "The program provides new nurses with exposure to diverse care settings, along with mentorship and coaching to support their transition into practice. In partnership with the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College, these efforts have contributed to a registered nurse retention rate exceeding 94%," the release stated;
  • Education and career development opportunities, including Novant Health Future Forward, a debt-free education program, according to the release;
  • and opportunities for team members to volunteer through initiatives such as Habitat for Humanity builds, community baby showers for local families and participation in Wilmington-area events, including sporting events, concerts and parades.
