Wilmington Health recently purchased land near The Pointe at Barclay with plans to construct a new 64,000-square-foot medical office building on the site.

Deed records show the health care provider purchased nearly five acres in the Midtown Park office area near The Pointe for $5.2 million. The project slated for the site, called Midtown II, will bring a range of clinical and diagnostic services under one roof, according to Brian Voth, Wilmington Health's chief development officer.

“Midtown II will feature advanced imaging capabilities, including CT and MRI, a full-service, highly automated laboratory and modern clinical space designed to support both urgent care and specialty services,” Voth wrote in an email to the Business Journal on Tuesday. “The facility will also include dedicated space for clinical research, reinforcing our commitment to advancing care and bringing new treatment opportunities to our patients.”

Wilmington Health, one of the area’s largest health care companies, recently broke ground on the medical office building and expects to complete construction in approximately 15 months, according to Voth. The health care provider has partnered with Monteith Construction and Bowman Murray Hemingway Architects on the project.

Wilmington Health has an existing footprint in an office building at 1124 Gallery Park Blvd., which includes internal medicine, OB/GYN, robotic-assisted surgery and dermatology services, according to the company’s website.

"The new Midtown II facility is intended to expand upon our existing footprint, not replace it," a spokesperson wrote in an email. "It will allow us to grow services, enhance access and better meet the increasing demand for care in our community while maintaining the strength of our current operations.”

According to Voth, the new facility represents an important step in the provider’s “long-term commitment to expanding access to high-quality, coordinated care across southeastern North Carolina.”

“As our region continues to grow, so does the need for timely, reliable access to care delivered in a way that is both efficient and patient-centered,” he added.

Drew Hardin, Monteith's vice president of project development, said the contractor is currently adding more parking in front of Wilmington Health's first building and prepping the site for the adjacent second building. Hardin said the firm broke ground on the project last week.

Departments housed in the new medical office building will include occupational medicine, radiology, phlebotomy, pathology, foot and ankle, orthopedics, dermatology, urology and vascular, among others, according to Hardin.

"This project builds on the strength of our existing Midtown campus and aligns with our broader strategy of developing integrated care environments – places where patients can access multiple services in a single, thoughtfully designed setting," Voth wrote. "That model enhances convenience, strengthens collaboration among providers, and supports better clinical outcomes."

Wilmington Health purchased the site, which includes portions of two tracts located at 1124 Gallery Park Blvd. and 2225 Stonecrop Drive, from Cameron Properties Land Company LLC, according to deed records.

Local real estate firm Cameron Management developed The Pointe at Barclay in partnership with Collett Capital, a Charlotte-based real estate private equity firm.

Several new projects are underway in the area. Earlier this year, developers submitted plans for an apartment complex with nearly 300 new apartments, while a 72-unit townhome community is gearing up to break ground.
