The owner of Mayfaire Town Center and a hospitality company plan to develop a Westin brand hotel at the mixed-use complex.

According to an announcement Wednesday morning, CBL Properties (NYSE:CBL) and Vision Hospitality Group would build the 83,000-square-foot Element by Westin hotel at 1055 International Drive. The former restaurant at that address in the center, which previously held Main Street Brewing Co. and before that Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill, will be demolished, CBL officials said.

The 139-room hotel will mark the brand’s entrance into the Wilmington market, a news release stated.

“We are thrilled to partner with Chattanooga-based Vision Hospitality Group to bring the unique lodging experience of Element to Mayfaire Town Center,” said Stephen Lebovitz, CEO of CBL Properties, in the release. “CBL’s strategy is to bring new uses to our properties such as entertainment, dining, multi-family and hotels.  The addition of the Element hotel will further enhance the premier mix of retail, restaurants, entertainment, and other options already available at the property.”

According to the release, Element "caters to those looking to stay both short and long-term. Element hotels have an outdoor-inspired, sustainability-focused design philosophy, and feature guest rooms with in-room kitchens, spa-inspired bathrooms and signature Heavenly Beds."

Construction on the project is expected to begin soon with an anticipated opening in spring 2024, the release stated. The hotel is being developed in a 49/51 joint venture between CBL and Vision Hospitality.

“CBL Properties has been a valued partner of ours,” said Mitch Patel, Vision president and CEO, in the release. “We are excited to collaborate with them once again to address the significant market demand and introduce the Element brand to the Wilmington area.”

Other plans were submitted to the city of Wilmington recently for a 101-room Tru by Hilton hotel across Military Cutoff Road from Mayfaire Town Center at 1010 Ashes Drive, behind the existing Springhill Suites by Marriott. According to the city's project tracking website, those plans are expected to be reviewed by the Wilmington Technical Review Committee on Feb . 9.
