A downtown Wilmington pizza restaurant business has changed hands, according to a news release Friday.

MoMentum Companies, a Wilmington-based commercial real estate and business brokerage firm, announced the sale of I Love NY Pizza to Megan Jackson and Jeremy Bailey for an undisclosed sum.

The release said customers “should expect the things they love most about it to stay exactly the same” at the longtime Wilmington establishment at 28 N. Front St.

Sellers Dino Psilos and John Karonis built the business into a local favorite, according to the release. The release said finding the right buyers was important as they considered selling.

“Owning I Love NY Pizza has been an incredible experience,” stated Dino Psilos in the release. “We’re grateful for the support of our customers and staff over the years and are confident that Megan and Jeremy will continue the tradition while bringing their own energy and vision to the business.”

Bailey said he thinks the best thing about the business “is that it is already about as close to perfect as you can get. It has great food, a great team and a loyal customer base. Our intention is not to come in and change what people love about it. We want to protect it and continue it.”

Terry Espy, principal and broker at MoMentum Companies, said she thinks restaurants like I Love NY Pizza become part of downtown’s personality.

“People have memories attached to them. You stop there before a show, bring your family when they visit, grab a slice after being out with friends or recognize the same person behind the counter year after year,” she said. “There is real value in preserving that sense of place.”
